On March 28, 2010, legendary WWE star Shawn Michaels wrestled for the last time. On that night at Wrestlemania XXVI, 72,000 fans filled the stadium to say their goodbyes. He was featured in the main event, facing off against The Undertaker. In a stunning display, it took three pile drivers for The Undertaker to defeat Michaels.
After the match, Michaels addressed the crowd. That was it. His career was over and he was given one heck of an emotional sendoff. Now, eight years later, Michaels has shocked us all by announcing his return to WWE. He’s not alone, either. Joining him in again in the ring will be Triple H. Together, the WWE world will see the rebirth D-Generation X.
D-Generation X’s first opponent, fittingly enough, will be The Brothers of Destruction, better known as Kane and The Undertaker. Of the four competitors, only Triple H is under 50-years-old, a fact that hardly matters for nostalgia-hungry WWE fans looking for any reason to tune back in. Not all fans are happy, though.
The iconic Wrestlemania XXVI match was seen by many as the perfect send-off. One fan has even gone as far as blaming money for Michaels’ return, “Thought we would really never see Shawn Michaels wrestle again. But with the probable payday he is getting, can’t blame him.” If you’re interested in watching the return of a legend, the match will take place on November 2 in Saudi Arabia at WWE Crown Jewel.
