Retry Correct Incorrect Italian Benito Mussolini founded the Fascist Party in 1919. As the party grew in popularity, he rose to power and soon had complete control of the government. He ruled Italy as Prime Minister from 1922 to 1943 and inspired other totalitarian rulers, including Adolf Hitler. His followers called him “Il Duce”, which means “the leader.” Mussolini was executed in 1945 during the Italian civil war.
