Retry Correct Incorrect Saddam Hussein was involved in the 1968 coup that brought the Iraqi Ba’ath Party to power in Iraq and officially became the country’s leader in 1979. He was a brutal dictator and it’s estimated that purges and genocides under his rule killed more than 250,000 people. He was later convicted by an Iraqi court of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death in 2006.
