From 1953 to 1964, Nikita Khrushchev was the First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. During the Cold War, he placed nuclear weapons 90 miles from Florida which led to the Cuban Missle crisis. He was stripped of political power by his party in 1964.
