Aside from being a beautiful representation of noise pollution in various parts of the United States, it also shows where a majority of people flock to. If you’re familiar with the states, then you’ll notice that a majority of noise spikes, the yellow color, occur near large cities, such as Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Dallas.

Then we have the dark blue, which shows the quieter regions of the country. Here we see a majority of the pacific northwest as well as Maine. These towns are more rural, and wouldn’t have as many people as, say, Manhattan, New York.
