Princess Grace Kelly and her daughter, Princess Stéphanie, were in a serious car crash on September 13, 1982. On that day, Grace drove her daughter to the Monaco train station. Stéphanie was attending school in Paris and often commuted by train. On the way to the train station, Grace, in a panic, told Stéphanie that she couldn't get the car's brake system to work. She lost control of the vehicle and steered down a 120-foot slope.

Years later, doctors found evidence that Grace experienced a "cerebral vascular incident." They believed that this is what caused her to lose control of her body and the car. Stéphanie survived the accident, but she still feels a sense of survivor's guilt. "Everyone wanted her to survive," she recalled, "and instead I did."
